Breaking Barriers and Crumpler's Help to Minorities

Crumpler's book was a major help to minorities of gender and race. As you can see in the picture, it was dedicated to women and nurses, something rarely done before. She was one of the first blacks to write a book related to medicine, she grouped all races together, showing segregation was unnacceptable, and focused on women, the gender thought to be less. Crumpler proved gender and race did not matter, breaking the social barriers in society as well.

Crumpler's work in Richmond, Virginia with the Freedmen's Bureau provided medical care to the ones who needed it the most. The picture shows a group of "freedmen" from Richmond, Virginia, like ones Crumpler would treat. She made a huge difference in these people's lives, and despite criticism from others, she showed her dedication to help those in need. She set an example and inspired people to help others no matter what rank they had in society.
